Chocolate, Date and Coconut Bliss Balls

Bliss balls are an easy to make snack, high in beneficial fats from the coconut, fibre and iron from the dates, protein and vitamins from the nuts/seeds, and refined sugar free – however, due to the dates they still have a high sugar content, so 1 or 2 in the lunch box is best (eating a packet of 5, like they are sold in, is about the equivalent in sugar to a can of coke!). However, in saying that, they are better to eat than a snack high in refined white sugars, due to your body getting the many other benefits as mentioned above.

  • 1 cup of almonds (or you could use sunflower & pumpkin seeds if nut free)

  • 1 cup dates (soaked in boiling water for 10 minutes first – or use medjool dates

  • 2 cups dessicated coconut

  • 2 tablespoons of cacao powder, or good quality cocoa powder

  • Extra coconut for rolling in if desired

  1. In a food processor (or high powered blender like a Vitamix) blend the nuts until finally chopped

  2. Drain the dates

  3. Add to the food processor along with the coconut and cacao powder

  4. Blend until all combined and sticky

  5. Roll into balls (usually a table spoon of mixture)

  6. Roll in coconut or cacao powder

You can store these in the fridge or freezer.
